What The Critics SayBy all rights, DJ Tiesto's debut solo album should have been a thing of primed Dutch perfection. After the many Forbidden Paradise and Magik mix releases over the years, Tiesto had nothing but time to hone his strengths and explore the slow-motion Atlantisian template of trance once believed perfected exclusively by Paul Van Dyk and Ferry Corsten. But nothing ignites here, certainly not anything that warrants the delayed release. In My Memory sounds a lot like one of his mix albums, in fact, with deep and diffused effects circling indistinct highlights of Japanese piano, progressive spice, and corny lyrics. ~ Dean Carlson, All Music Guide 'Magik, Vol. 7: Live in Los Angeles'Release Date 6/24/2001

What The Critics SayReleased to help coincide with a timely North American tour, Summerbreeze coddles an erratic DJ Tiesto with big tunes and creative hypertension. After all, it's easy to be seduced by his knack for driving home highbrow warmth or to be impressed with the manner in which he can put a clever spit'n'shine on what's usually considered mawkish elation as he dishes out songs like BT's "Dreaming" and Delerium's "Silence" that got universal drool. ~ Dean Carlson, All Music Guide 'Magik, Vol. 1: First Flight'Release Date 9/15/2000

What The Critics SayLush and smart and colorful, with just the right kind of optimistic melancholy, Magik, Vol. 1: First Flight succeeds primarily because DJ Tiësto allows himself to play off his own strengths. The buildups are few but the energy is there. Lock's dangerously sweet "Into the Sun" and the nearly tacky new wave whispers of Silent Breed's very good "Sync In" are fine moments in DJ Tiësto's history. And even taking into account an absent climax, the mixing is fluid but not overlong, with few songs outstaying their welcome or too invisibly melting into the next. ~ Dean Carlson, All Music Guide 'Magik, Vol. 3: Far From Earth'Release Date 9/15/2000

What The Critics SayDutch trance guru DJ Tiesto perfects an impressive mix on In Search of Sunrise. Culling tracks from electronic cohorts like Cabala, Gypsy, Gouryella, and Kamaya Painters, DJ Tiesto mixes something sophisticated and exciting. From the posh elegance of Marc Vision's "Time Gate (Update)" to the swirling bombast of BT's "Mercury and Solace," DJ Tiesto's infectious delivery is stunning. The Morrighan's "Remember (To the Millennium)" delves into the lushness of Euro-dance and Cecily Fay's angelic vocals trip into the rave scene. DJ Tiesto's own "Sparkles" concludes the 14-song album, marking In Search of Sunrise a glossy introduction and slick sight into one of his summertime DJ sets, Ibiza style. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide 'Magik, Vol. 4: A New Adventure'Release Date 1/1/1999
